Unqork CEO Gary Hoberman Unveils Codeless as a Service

Gary Hoberman, CEO and Founder of Unqork, used his keynote address at Unqork Create 2022 to introduce Codeless as a Service (CaaS), Unqork’s ground-breaking vision for the future of software.

Hoberman also announced two major new releases in his keynote, Unqork OS and Codeless Data Experiences, both of which extend the reach and power of Codeless as a Service by enabling enterprise customers to more easily build and manage software applications, with a focus on integrability and data functionality. 

CaaS: “A category that has never existed before”

In his keynote, Hoberman argued that CaaS is fundamentally different from low-code/no-code tools, which still require significant manual coding—and/or generate lots of new code themselves.

At the core of Codeless as a Service is what Hoberman calls the “codeless definition,” in which 100% of all functionalities are stored in a single, open-standard, fully readable JSON file. 

Crucially, this means that Unqork assumes all the tech debt that was formerly the responsibility of individual IT departments. They have no code to manage, and none of the constraints this entails.  

“When an application is defined in Unqork’s codeless definition, every component around it could change without any changes to the application itself,” said Hoberman.

Bridging the business-IT divide—codelessly

As every business becomes a software business, Codeless as a Service bridges the divide between business and technology teams, explained Hoberman. 

“The business knows why an innovation is important, why it needs to get down now,” says Hoberman. “IT understands the how—all the complexities, often invisible to the business, that stand between business requirements and secure, performant software.” 

By removing the complexities of coding altogether, CaaS brings the two together in a way that goes far beyond the old waterfall paradigm—and even the limits of the agile paradigm that dominates development today.

The future of software is now

As proof, Hoberman cited several examples of the speed with which Unqork’s platform is already delivering business solutions. 

In just five days and amid the unprecedented challenges of a global pandemic, said Hoberman, New York City set up an entire, end-to-end food delivery system, which connected multiple systems and organizations to deliver two million food shipments to New Yorkers in need. 

Another large public sector organization replaced their COBAL-based system, moved it to the cloud, and made it their system of record—also in five days. 

“Even from our earliest days, our customers called us a rocket ship. And the thing is, our customers are in the rocketship with us, and their business requirements are the fuel,” said Hoberman.
